Guantanamo Bay
The Washington Post Reports:“The Obama administration will launch a review of the classified files of the approximately 250 detainees at Guantanamo Bay immediately after taking office, as part of an intensive effort to close the U.S. prison in Cuba, according to people who advised the campaign on detainee issues…..They believe the move would create a global wave of diplomatic and popular goodwill that could accelerate the transfer of some detainees to other countries”.It is frightening to ponder the lengths that President-Elect Obama may go to undo the progress we have made on the war on terror. I still hold firm that Obama will be soft on terror and will be bullied by and capitulate to our avowed enemies. His desire to close Guantanamo Bay is a signal that he is more concerned with being liked and being President of the World than protecting our country and being the President of the United States. The Guantanamo Bay detention facility holds several hundred of the worst anti-west, murderous, terrorist thugs. To release them would be a huge mistake, even into a different facility, as they may find the means to once again become involved in active terrorism. Also, what country is going to want these people? Why should they be returned to their country of origin which may be sympathetic to their plight and eventually set them free? Lastly, we are not aware of the extent of information we have received from these prisoners that has possibly prevented another terrorist attack. We are possibly giving up a valuable tool in our war on terror by closing this facility.Liberals argue that Guantanamo Bay is used as an Al Qaeda recruiting tool to show how inhuman and anti-Islamic the United States is. I say it is an example of how just the United States is. In just about any other country, during any other war, captured enemy combatants may not have been allowed to live to even see captivity. If they did, it would have been an inhuman and torturous existence that would have caused prisoners to wish they were dead. Guantanamo prisoners live in a comfortable environment and are even provided the necessary requirements to practice their faith. How well off would a captured Christian soldier be in an Al Qaeda sponsored prison?By considering closing Guantanamo Bay, Barack Obama once again demonstrates that he is nothing more than a liberal appeaser and not a leader of the American people when we need one the most.

As a former con law professor, I suspect Obama takes seriously what the Constitution says about due process of law. This another example of how the term conservative can have different meanings - in kost areas those who favor a strict construction of the constitution are thought of as conervatives, not liberals.
